Nightmare fuel

Thom Hartmann, radio host, suggests an unsettling possibility:

Alberto Gonzales, "moderate Supreme Court nominee"

Mr. Hartmann has a point - the fact that the far-right considers Gonzalez too "liberal" on questions such as abortion could be a selling point with Congressional Republicans and right-wing Democrats looking to avoid another nomination battle. Bush could simply suggest an extremist as his first choice then drop back to Gonzalez as a "compromise".

Do we really need someone with such contempt for law sitting on the Supreme Court? Will we even get a voice in the selection?
