I must use my powers only for good

I've been predicting, if only informally, that the first sign Something Was Up in regards to Iran would be references back to the Iranian hostage crisis in 1979. Well, lookie here - the headline this afternoon on CNN:

Former hostages allege Iran's new president was captor

Complete with Scott McClellan's helpful comment that they're "take[ing] [the allegations] very seriously and we are looking into them to better understand the facts."

I guess Cheney's going to have to go down to Langely now and make sure they "better understand the facts", as with Iraq...

Obligitory post-speech rant

So, what I got from Emperor Dim Son's speech last night was that:

a) we have more than enough troops but need more people to sign up anyway,

b) Iraq will be free once all those "foreign fighters" are gone, not including the "foreign fighters" from our country,

c) terraists hate freedom of speech and that's why we need to stop all dissent in this country,

d) magnetic ribbons on cars and flying the flag have some sort of magical effect to support the military, and

e) we'll leave Iraq when we're good and ready, and not a second before.

No mention of the deteriorating situations in either Iraq or Afganistan, of course; though, considering that the CNN poll on the speech was running about 75% "worrisome" on the public's feelings about it, it doesn't seem to have done much good. At least it kept Bush busy for a half-hour; 30 minutes where he couldn't screw anything new up.
